Dhaka: A joint team of Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) and police rescued 28 people, including women and children, while being trafficked to Malaysia by sea at Baharchara area of Teknaf in Cox's Bazar. BCG Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq stated that the operation was initiated after receiving information about the trafficking attempt. The rescue took place near Kachhpiya Ghat in Baharchara around 1am.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the joint drive by BCG and local police successfully intercepted the trafficking operation and rescued the individuals before they could be taken abroad. During interrogation, it was revealed that organized gangs were promising Bangladeshi and Rohingya citizens a better life and lucrative job opportunities in Malaysia, thus enticing them to make the perilous journey by sea.
Despite the successful rescue, the traffickers managed to escape capture, leaving no arrests made at the scene. The BCG official emphasized that operations against human trafficking and related criminal activities will persist as part of ongoing efforts to thwart such illegal endeavors. The BCG's commitment to combating human trafficking remains steadfast as they work in collaboration with other forces to ensure the safety and security of vulnerable individuals.
