Dhaka: Dhaka Metropolitan Police's (DMP) Mohammadpur station today said it arrested 25 people overnight suspecting their involvement in criminal activities, as part of an anti-crime campaign in the area.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, officer-in-charge of Mohammadpur Police Station, Kazi Md Rafique Ahmed, stated that the individuals were apprehended late yesterday and earlier today. The suspects have already been produced before the court. The police have also requested a court order to remand some of the 25 suspects in custody for interrogation purposes.
The police station chief mentioned that the anti-crime drive was conducted with the support of army troops and the police's detective branch. He added that some of the suspects appeared to be habitual criminals. A subsequent statement from the DMP supplemented Ahmed's remarks by naming the suspects, who were mostly in their 20s, with six being 19 years old. The only exception was a 63-year-old man among those arrested.
