Chattogram: Chattogram Port Rakkha Parishad (CPRP) has postponed its planned blockade of Chattogram port, which was to commence today.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the CPRP had initiated the protest to oppose lease contracts of the Chattogram Port Authority’s (CPA) two major container handling facilities, the Chattogram Container Terminal (CCT) and New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT), with foreign operators. CPRP convener Hasan Maruf Rumi announced the postponement after a successful discussion with CPA, where they received assurances regarding the interests of CCT and NCT workers.

Previously, CPRP had declared at a press conference that they would commence their blockade in the Boropool, Agrabad, and Siemens Hostel areas at 6 am today. Md. Humayun Kabir, member secretary of CPRP, mentioned that they met with CPA’s acting chairman, who requested the withdrawal of the blockade as a court decision on the issue is expected soon.

The High Court is scheduled to hear the writ petition challenging the CPA’s lease contracts tomorrow. CPRP plans to monitor the developments and will consider announcing a new protest plan on November 26 based on the situation.
