Dhaka: Election Commissioner Brigadier General (Retd.) Abul Fazl Mohammad Sanaullah announced today that democracy in Bangladesh is set to be revitalized through the forthcoming 13th national parliamentary election. He conveyed this message during his opening address at a workshop held at Lakeshore Heights in Gulshan.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the workshop, titled “Building Bridges: Regional Electoral Governance and Citizen Observation Exchange,” was organized by the Asian Network for Free Elections (ANFREL). Brigadier General Sanaullah emphasized the historic nature of the upcoming election, which he described as a key step toward reinitiating democratic processes in the country.

The commissioner expressed optimism about the participation of a record number of international observers, underscoring the global interest in witnessing a significant electoral event. He affirmed the Election Commission’s readiness to conduct the elections in a transparent and orderly manner, highlighting their commitment to ensuring a fair and credible electoral process.

Sanaullah also identified the challenges posed by misinformation on social media and the misuse of artificial intelligence as critical issues to address in the lead-up to the election. He assured that the Commission is implementing strategies to effectively manage these challenges.

In his closing remarks, the commissioner expressed gratitude to the workshop participants for their support in what he described as a vital initiative by the Election Commission.

According to EC officials, the schedule for the 13th parliamentary election, along with a potential referendum, is anticipated to be announced approximately 60 days before the polling day, which is expected in the first half of February, prior to Ramadan. While the exact dates remain unconfirmed, the Commission has suggested that an announcement regarding the election schedule could occur in the first week of December.
