Dhaka: A view-exchange meeting was held on ‘The Registration (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025’ today at the seminar room of the Solicitor’s Office in the Attorney General’s Building on the premises of Bangladesh Supreme Court. The meeting was chaired by Chairman of the Law Commission Justice Zinat Ara.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the event was attended by Former District and Sessions Judge Masdar Hossain, Law Commission Secretaries Syed Azad Subhani and Liaquat Ali Mollah, Directorate of Registration Inspector General Kazi Abdul Hannan, Professor of Law Department of Dhaka University Dr Borhan Uddin Khan, and Special Consultant of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Barrister Tanim Hossain Shawon, among others.

She highlighted the necessity of taking sufficient time to prepare regulations after a law is enacted. Justice Ara expressed concerns about the rapid amendment of laws without proper research or stakeholder consultation, which sometimes results in inconsistencies with the constitution.
The discussion at the meeting revolved around making the ordinance more acceptable and practical. The speakers recommended the digitalization of the registration system, including the development of a digitalized cloud system and skilled manpower for data management. They stressed the importance of implementing complete security measures to protect digital information related to registration.
The meeting also addressed the need for provisions to penalize those who file cases under false identities or with false information. The speakers highlighted the importance of preventing fraud in the repeated sale of the same land by requiring buyers to maintain a ledger in their own name. Additionally, they called for proper legislation to reduce the time, labor, and suffering of individuals seeking registration, aiming for a realistic and fruitful legal framework in the long run.
