Kurigram: Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Age-Group Committee Chairman Mohammad Asif Akbar has announced comprehensive plans to organize national-level tournaments aimed at making age-group cricket more structured and extensive. In his recent visit to Kurigram Stadium, he shared that preparations are underway to launch six to seven such tournaments.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Asif Akbar stated, “As part of this initiative, the Prime Bank School Cricket Tournament will soon kick off. BCB is working to ensure that young cricketers can stay on the field for at least eight months a year.” His visit to Kurigram is part of a broader tour of the northern region to assess development opportunities for players aged 14 to 18. During his inspection of the stadium, he emphasized the importance of having all necessary facilities in place for players’ practice, promising that any shortfalls will be promptly addressed.
Asif Akbar highlighted BCB’s commitment to promoting cricket across all educational institutions in the country. These initiatives are aimed at popularizing cricket among the younger generation and establishing a strong foundation for the sport. Additionally, he assured that alternative grounds would be provided for football players.
Following the inspection, discussions were held with players, club committee members, and stadium authorities in the stadium hall room. The event saw the presence of BCB Director Mohammad Hasanuzzaman, Member Secretary Armanul Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioner Asaduzzaman, and members of the district sports association and local club committees.
Local sports enthusiasts have expressed optimism, hoping that BCB’s initiative to expand age-group cricket will inject new momentum into the development of young cricketers and enhance field-based activities.
