Dhaka: Ireland assistant coach Gary Wilson expressed his team’s determination to display a fighting spirit despite Bangladesh’s dominant position in the second and final cricket Test. “We are here to show the fighting spirit, and I think that’s the first thing we want to show tomorrow,” Wilson stated following Day 2 of the match.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the situation is challenging for Ireland as they ended the day at 98-5 in response to Bangladesh’s formidable total of 476 all out. This leaves Ireland trailing by 378 runs and facing the looming threat of a follow-on. Having already suffered an innings-and-47-run defeat in the first Test in Sylhet, another loss would result in a 2-0 series sweep in favor of Bangladesh.
Wilson remains optimistic, believing that the current batsmen have the temperament needed to withstand the pressure from Bangladesh’s bowlers. “The two guys who are batting at the moment are proper batsmen – really, really good batters. We’ll be backing them to dig deep. It’ll be difficult,” he remarked.
He acknowledged the challenges ahead, noting that Bangladesh would certainly have fielders in catching positions and that their bowlers are accurate, with the pitch beginning to offer some assistance. “But these guys showed a method in the last six or seven overs today, and they did well to get through that period. That will be our first target tomorrow morning,” Wilson concluded.
