Coordinated Efforts Urged for Achieving SDG Targets in Sylhet

Sylhet: Statistics and Information Management Secretary Aleya Akhter today emphasized the necessity of coordinated efforts among all stakeholders to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) during her address at a seminar on ‘SDG Localization’. The event was organized by the Statistics and Information Management Department at the Sylhet Divisional Commissioner’s Office.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Akhter highlighted the government’s commitment to achieving the SDG targets, stating that a comprehensive action plan has already been adopted to implement the goals set by the United Nations. She stressed the importance of localizing the SDGs to engage diverse sections of society effectively.



Akhter underscored that the primary aim of SDG localization is to address the needs of marginalized communities by formulating development plans that consider local culture, environment, and needs. She affirmed the necessity of accountability and prudent management of resources and opportunities in conducting state activities.



The secretary expressed optimism about achieving significant success through sincere and responsible collaboration among all involved parties. She urged authorities to focus on specific areas, including full cultivation of wasteland in Sylhet, ensuring education for children in tea gardens, and enhancing roads and infrastructure to boost tourism.



The seminar was chaired by Sylhet Divisional Commissioner Khan Md Reza-un-Nabi. The keynote address was delivered by SDG Cell Deputy Director and Focal Point Md. Alamgir Hossain and Dr. Md Rafiqul Islam, a Professor of Economics at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology. Other notable speakers included Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics Director General Mohammad Mizanur Rahman, Additional Secretary Mohammad Masud Rana Chowdhury, and Sylhet Deputy Commissioner Md Sarwar Alam. The event also saw participation from various government and private sector officials and media personnel.
