Dhaka: Students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) today celebrated the death sentence against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina by hanging a symbolic effigy and distributing sweets following the verdict in the July-August 2024 mass killings case, classified as a crime against humanity. After the announcement of the verdict, Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union representatives and general students gathered in the university’s Bot Tola area around 4:30 pm.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the students hung a symbolic effigy of Sheikh Hasina from a tree branch and later distributed sweets among the attendees. JUCSU General Secretary Mazharul Islam remarked that the verdict stands as a historic document of justice against tyranny and oppression, affirming that the martyrs and injured victims of July have finally received due justice.
