Jahangirnagar university: Jahangirnagar University unit of Jatiya Chhatra Shakti held a torch procession demanding the maximum punishment for ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, accusing her of mass killings and crimes against humanity. The procession began around 8:00 pm from the Bottola area of the campus and concluded at the Adommo 24 monument following a brief rally.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Zia Uddin Ayaan, an organiser of the JU Chhatra Shakti unit, addressed the rally, alleging that general students were subjected to brutal attacks during the 2024 student-led mass movement, which was reportedly suppressed by Sheikh Hasina's government through repression and killings. He highlighted that after the change of government, an International Crimes Tribunal was formed to investigate and prosecute those responsible for the alleged atrocities.
The tribunal received petitions from victims' families, leading to five charges being filed against Sheikh Hasina. The tribunal is set to deliver its verdict tomorrow. Expressing solidarity with the programme, Zahidul Islam Emon, president of JU Chhatra Union, emphasized the importance of holding Sheikh Hasina accountable. He stated, "Sheikh Hasina must be brought back and face the maximum punishment. This will serve as a warning to future rulers against authoritarianism."
