Patuakhali: Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury announced that law enforcement agencies have completed preparations to prevent any disturbances related to the upcoming verdict against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, which is set to be delivered on Monday.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Home Adviser emphasized that the verdict on Sheikh Hasina and others accused of crimes against humanity will be declared on November 17. He assured the public that necessary measures have been put in place to maintain order across the country. His comments came during a press briefing at the Circuit House in the district.
Additionally, the Home Adviser disclosed that the 13th parliamentary election is scheduled for the first half of February, before Ramadan. He noted that while the Election Commission will announce the official election schedule, law enforcement agencies are on standby to ensure a peaceful process.
"The public and political parties are gearing up for the elections, with candidates already announced," he stated, expressing confidence in a smooth electoral process. Security forces will be deployed for nine days, including the five days before the election, the election day itself, and the three days following the polls.
To bolster security, special operations are planned nationwide before the election. The Home Adviser detailed the deployment of approximately 1.5 lakh police, 5.5 lakh Ansar, one lakh army personnel, 35,000 BGB members, 500 navy personnel, 8,000 RAB officers, and 4,000 coast guard members to ensure the elections proceed peacefully.
Lt. Gen. Chowdhury's recent engagements included visits to the Bangladesh Coast Guard base and Patuakhali district Police Lines. He continued his tour to Kuakata, where he is set to inspect the Tourist Police and River Police camps.
