Chattogram: Religious Affairs Adviser Dr. A F M Khalid Hossain today expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Bangladesh's highest Buddhist religious leader Dr Jnanasree Mahathero. In a condolence message, the religious adviser fondly recalled Dr. Jnanasree's illustrious career and said he enlightened the Bangladeshi Buddhist community for many years with his intellect, wisdom, and creativity.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, alongside spreading the teachings of Buddha, Dr. Jnanasree was devoted to social reform and humanitarian activities, as mentioned by Khalid. He will be remembered for his contributions to promoting interfaith harmony, goodwill, and humanitarian causes.
Dr Jnanasree breathed his last around 4:30 pm today at a private hospital in Chattogram city. In recognition of his contributions to social service, he was conferred with the Ekushey Padak in 2022.
