Khulna: Police have arrested five activists of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) for organizing a flash procession at Power House intersection and Sachibunia bypass road in Khulna city on Tuesday night. Police and locals reported that a group of 40-50 Chhatra League and Jubo League activists initiated a torch procession near Sachibunia Textile Mills at approximately 8 pm.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, upon receiving information about the procession, police quickly arrived at the scene, but the activists managed to disperse. Subsequently, local BNP leaders held a brief protest rally at the location. Concurrently, another group of BCL activists attempted to organize a procession at the Power House intersection, but officers from Sadar and Sonadanga Model Police Stations intervened.
KMP Deputy Commissioner (South) Sudarshan Kumar Roy stated that police detained three individuals from the Ferryghat area as they tried to march under the banner of the banned political wing. He mentioned that additional security measures have been implemented in Khulna in anticipation of November 13, including multiple police checkpoints and mobile patrols.
In a related incident, miscreants attacked and vandalized the National Citizens' Party (NCP) district and city offices near Tiger Garden in Khulna early Tuesday night. Police and locals noted that a group of unidentified men stormed the office around 1 am, causing damage to furniture and documents before fleeing the scene.
No case had been filed as of Wednesday evening; however, Mahmudul Hasan, the chief coordinator of NCP Khulna, confirmed that legal action is in progress.
