Dhaka: Business entities will now be able to import ten essential goods on a deferred payment basis as the central bank has announced such facilities aiming to keep the supply of these commodities smooth during the upcoming holy month of Ramadan. These commodities include rice, wheat, onion, pulse, edible oil, sugar, chickpea, pea, spices, and dates.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the central bank issued a circular today stating the decision to allow the commercial import of these essential goods on usance terms for up to 90 days under supplier's or buyer's credit. This move is intended to maintain reasonable pricing and ensure a steady supply of necessary food items during Ramadan.
The circular emphasized that other relevant instructions would remain unchanged and urged that the contents of the circular, effective until March 31, 2026, be communicated to the relevant clientele.
