Dhaka: A team of Detective Branch (DB) of police has arrested five suspects, including two shooters, with two foreign pistols in connection with the killing of top-listed criminal Mamun in broad daylight in Old Dhaka's Sutrapur area on Monday. The arrests took place in Narsingdi and Dhaka on Tuesday night.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, additional deputy commissioner of DB, Md Shafiqul Islam, revealed the details during a news briefing at the DMP Media Centre. Mamun was allegedly killed due to enmity with another criminal, Roni, as they vied for supremacy in the underworld.
The arrested individuals include shooters Faruk and Robin, along with their accomplices Shamim, Rubel, and Yusuf. Faruk, Rabin, Shamim, and Rubel were apprehended in Narsingdi, while Yusuf was later captured in the capital's Rayerbazar area.
During the operations, two foreign pistols, six rounds of bullets, two magazines, a motorcycle used in the murder, and Tk 1.53 lakh in cash were seized. Islam stated that Faruk and Robin executed the murder for Tk 2 lakh under Roni's directives.
Post-murder, Faruk and Robin handed over the firearms and ammunition to Rubel as instructed by Roni. Rubel subsequently transferred these items to Yusuf. Rubel is known to be a rent-a-car trader, while Yusuf works as a trailer.
