Dhaka: Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir has protested against the planned sabotage by the Awami League, whose activities have been banned, and demanded a legal basis for the July Charter. Chhatra Shibir President Zahidul Islam and Secretary General Nurul Islam Saddam made this demand in a joint statement issued today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the statement accused the Awami League of establishing a dictatorship in the country, stripping away the people's voting rights, and suppressing opposition parties and opinions. The statement further alleged that the Awami League implemented an Indian agenda through disappearances, genocide, extrajudicial killings, and creating 'Ayna Ghar' (mirror houses) to consolidate power.
The statement also accused the Awami League of paralyzing the country's economy and turning it into a dysfunctional state through criminal activities, including laundering about 28 lakh crore taka abroad, corruption, looting, and land grabbing.
The leaders highlighted that students and the public initiated a new Bangladesh through the bloody July Uprising, which ended 16 years of fascist rule. They noted that the blood stains of July have not yet dried, and the injured are still suffering in hospital beds.
However, the statement expressed concerns that the Awami League is plotting to repeat such massacres against the people without showing any remorse for the July events. The leaders issued a warning to those attempting to destabilize the country, promising a strong response from students and the public on the streets.
The leaders expressed concern that some parties are obstructing essential structural reforms by destroying state structures and systems, which they claim were established by the Awami League's fascism. They emphasized the importance of the July Charter in the journey of a new Bangladesh and called on the government to implement the aspirations of the mass uprising without prioritizing party positions.
Finally, the leaders urged patriotic forces to oppose the Awami League conspiracy and demand a legal basis for the July Charter.
