Gopalganj: Two motorcyclists were killed in a road accident in the Gandhiashur area of Sadar upazila last night. The victims have been identified as Saroj Bhattacharya, 60, and Bijoy Biswas, 22, both residents of Dalnia village in Majhigati union of Sadar upazila.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the accident took place around 10:30 pm on the Gopalganj-Tekerhat highway. The incident occurred when the motorcycle collided with a stationary truck on the side of the road, after the rider lost control of the vehicle. Bijoy Biswas, who was riding the motorcycle, died instantly at the scene, while Saroj Bhattacharya, who was a pillion passenger, sustained injuries.
Inspector Afzal Hossain of Baultali police outpost in Gopalganj Sadar upazila stated that locals quickly responded by rescuing Saroj and transporting him to a nearby clinic. However, medical personnel declared him dead upon arrival.
Authorities have completed the legal formalities and the bodies have been returned to their respective families.
