Dhaka: Primary school teachers have called off their movement today following discussions with senior government officials, as stated in an official press release. The decision was reached after a meeting between the leaders of the Primary Teachers' Demand Implementation Council and Finance Division Secretary Dr. M Khayruzzaman Majumder, along with officials from the primary and mass education ministry.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the meeting was attended by Primary and Mass Education Secretary Abu Taher M Masud Rana, other senior officials from the finance division, and relevant officials from the primary and mass education ministry. The primary school teachers had been on an indefinite movement seeking to upgrade the pay scale of assistant teachers from the 13th to the 10th grade, resolve complications regarding higher-grade benefits after 10 and 16 years of service, and ensure 100 percent departmental promotion from assistant teacher to head teacher.

The finance secretary assured the teachers that a proposal to upgrade the salary of assistant teachers to the 11th grade has been submitted to the National Pay Commission-2025 and is currently under consideration. He also stated that once recommendations are received from the national pay commission, the finance division will take the necessary actions.

Regarding the issues of higher-grade benefits after 10 and 16 years of service, the finance secretary mentioned that the finance division would make a decision if a proposal is received from the primary and mass education ministry. Concerning the demand for 100 percent departmental promotion to the position of head teacher, it was decided that the primary and mass education ministry will take appropriate steps as per the existing rules of the public administration ministry.
