Dhaka: The Dhaka University (DU) has once again been ranked as the top university in Bangladesh in the QS Asia University Rankings, published by the UK-based higher education and research organization Quacquarelli Symonds (QS).
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the ranking released on November 4 placed DU in the 132nd position in Asia and 17th position in South Asia, as confirmed by a DU press release.
Last year, DU also held the top spot among Bangladeshi universities in the same ranking, a list that is typically published at the start of November each year. This year's QS Asia Rankings include 1,529 universities across the continent. The University of Hong Kong topped the list, followed closely by Peking University of China in the second position.
The QS Asia University Rankings consider several key indicators, including academic reputation, the number of PhD holders, and the proportion of international students. In the global QS World University Rankings, Dhaka University currently holds the 584th position.
Recently, DU also achieved top ranking among Bangladeshi universities in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings, advancing 200 places to be listed among the world's top 1,000 universities. Additionally, 35 DU teachers and researchers have been included in the World's Top 2% Scientists 2025 list, marking the highest number from any university in Bangladesh.
A 16-member committee has been working diligently over several years to improve DU's position in global rankings under the overall guidance of DU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan. Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed serves as the convener of this committee.
The committee has implemented various initiatives aimed at enhancing academic and research standards, strengthening international collaboration, and promoting faculty and student exchanges. The relentless efforts of the committee are gradually being reflected in the rankings.
VC Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan congratulated all DU teachers, students, and staff for this achievement, while the ranking committee convener, Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed, expressed his gratitude to everyone involved for their contributions to the success.
