Dhaka: Bangladesh and Trkiye have expressed a strong commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, and humanitarian efforts, particularly concerning the Rohingya community. This development occurred as a five-member Turkish parliamentary delegation, led by Mehmet Akif Yilmaz, visited Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus at the State Guest House Jamuna.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the meeting emphasized the deep cultural and historical ties between Trkiye and Bangladesh, as noted by Yilmaz, who serves as a Member of the Turkish Parliament and Chairperson of the Trkiye-Bangladesh Parliamentary Friendship Group. The discussions focused on exploring ways to further strengthen cooperation in various sectors, including trade, investment, and humanitarian initiatives.
Yilmaz highlighted the Turkish delegation's recent visit to the Rohingya camps in Cox's Bazar and the ongoing humanitarian activities conducted by Turkish institutions and NGOs, such as the Turkish Field Hospital. The Chief Adviser expressed gratitude to Trkiye for its unwavering support for the Rohingya community and extended an invitation to Turkish entrepreneurs to invest in Bangladesh, highlighting the nation's potential as a manufacturing hub for exports to developed markets.
Professor Yunus reiterated his dedication to deepening the relationship between Bangladesh and Trkiye, expressing concerns about the plight of the Rohingya community, which he described as one of the most tragic humanitarian crises of our time. He emphasized the need to remember the injustices faced by the Rohingya people and the importance of providing better education and opportunities for their children to prevent future instability.
The Chief Adviser also conveyed his appreciation to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the First Lady for their continued support and solidarity with Bangladesh. He affirmed Bangladesh's readiness to collaborate closely with Trkiye to explore new opportunities for mutual benefit and a shared future.
