Jhalakathi: Seeds and chemical fertilizers have been distributed among small and marginal farmers in Sadar upazila to boost crop cultivation and production during the upcoming Rabi season. Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Farhana Yasmin inaugurated the programme as the chief guest at Sadar Upazila Parishad premises with Upazila Agriculture Officer Ali Ahmed presiding over the event.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, under this incentive programme, a total of 2,155 farmers are receiving free DSP and MOP fertilizers along with specific types of seeds. These resources are intended for the cultivation of mustard, sunflower, soybean, mung, lentil, khesari, peanut, wheat, and boro rice during the 2025-26 fiscal year.

During the event, UNO Farhana Yasmin stated that the agricultural incentive programme is a special government initiative. By providing free seeds and fertilizers, the programme aims to encourage farmers to enhance the cultivation and production of Rabi crops. Yasmin emphasized that increased cultivation by farmers will lead to a more prosperous and dynamic agricultural sector.

Agriculture Officer Ali Ahmed highlighted that the government regularly provides such incentives to support farmers. He noted that these seeds and fertilizers will significantly contribute to boosting the production of oilseeds, pulses, and rice. Ahmed expressed optimism that farmers will utilize this opportunity to increase their yield and income.

The event saw attendance from officials of various departments of the upazila, representatives of the agricultural sector, and over a hundred farmers from different unions.
