Dhaka: The eight-party alliance led by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami is set to submit a memorandum to the Chief Adviser on November 6, pushing for the immediate implementation of the July Charter and a separate referendum to establish its legal framework. This decision emerged from a high-level meeting of the alliance held at the Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish office in the city.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the meeting commenced at 11 am and was succeeded by a joint press briefing where the alliance leaders articulated their five-point demand and outlined their future action plans. Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish Ameer Maulana Mamunul Haque announced that a mass procession would take place on November 6 to present the memorandum to the Chief Adviser. "If the government fails to show satisfactory progress on their demands, the alliance will hold a mass rally in Dhaka on November 11," he declared.
The alliance's five-point demand comprises the immediate issuance of an order to implement the July Charter, a separate referendum to ensure its legal standing, maintaining the revised Representation of the People Order (RPO) without further amendments, implementing elections under a proportional representation system, ensuring a level playing field, and guaranteeing justice for victims of the July Uprising and collaborators of fascism.
During the press conference, Islami Andolon Bangladesh Ameer Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim (Pir Saheb Chormonai) emphasized the necessity of a legal foundation for the July Charter to validate both the current government and the July Uprising. He remarked, "Without a legal basis, the reforms, the uprising, and even the government itself will face questions of legitimacy."
Expressing concern over the emerging divisions among political parties regarding the referendum's timing, he noted, "All parties had earlier reached a consensus on holding a referendum. The current disagreement is regrettable." He urged all parties to reconcile their differences to restore a peaceful political atmosphere.
Present at the press conference were Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeb-e-Ameer Dr. Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher, Islami Andolon Bangladesh Presidium Member Prof. Ashraf Ali Akon, Khelafat Majlish Nayeb-e-Ameer Maulana Mahbubul Haque, JAGPA Vice-President and Spokesperson Rashed Pradhan, Islami Andolon Bangladesh Secretary General Principal Maulana Yunus Ahmad, Khelafat Majlish Secretary General Dr. Ahmad Abdul Kader, Nezam-e-Islam Party Secretary General Maulana Musa bin Izhar, Khelafat Andolon Secretary General Maulana Yusuf Sadiq Haqqani, and Bangladesh Development Party Secretary General Kazi Nizamul Haque Nayeem, among others.
