Dhaka: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar today emphasized the necessity of reviving the October 28 killings case, suggesting that if needed, responsibility should be assigned to a tribunal to reinvestigate these killings. He made these statements while serving as the chief guest at a protest rally held at the north gate of Baitul Mukarram, where participants demanded justice for the killings attributed to the Awami League on October 28, 2006.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the rally was chaired by Jamaat's Dhaka South City Ameer Md. Nurul Islam Bulbul, with speeches from Jamaat's Central Assistant Secretaries General Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan and Maulana Abdul Halim, as well as Dhaka South Secretary Dr. M Shafiqul Islam Masud, among others. Mia Golam Parwar described the October 28 killings as one of the most significant incidents in world history, questioning the lack of justice for these events compared to other politically motivated killings that have occurred since Bangladesh's independence.
Golam Parwar further alleged that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is orchestrating plans from Delhi to instigate chaos in Bangladesh in November. He called for the banning of the 14-party alliance led by her, suggesting that it is necessary to prevent potential election disruptions through violence and disorder.
Special guest Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan referred to the day as the "Paltan Tragedy," claiming that identified terrorists from the Awami League-led alliance attacked people with boat hooks and oars, and then celebrated over the bodies. He noted that cases were initially filed against leaders of the 14-party alliance, including Sheikh Hasina, but these cases were later withdrawn under suspicious circumstances once the Awami League returned to power.
Khan urged the interim government to revive the dismissed cases, arrest those accused, and ensure they face maximum penalties. In his closing remarks, Nurul Islam Bulbul called for the revival of all cases related to genocides allegedly directed by Hasina and proposed that families of the October 28 victims receive financial aid and state acknowledgment similar to those affected by the Shapla Square massacre.
Following the rally, a significant protest procession commenced from the north gate of Baitul Mukarram, passing through key areas such as Bijoynagar, Kakrail, and Shantinagar, reinforcing the demand for justice for the October 28 killings.
