Rangpur: Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS) Central President Md Zahidul Islam has expressed concerns that the Rangpur region is lagging behind in development compared to other parts of the country.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Islam criticized past public representatives for prioritizing personal gain over regional growth during his speech as the chief guest at a reception ceremony for first-year honors students and meritorious students at Rangpur Carmichael College.

The event, supported by Rangpur Metropolitan ICS and chaired by its President Nurul Huda, highlighted the significant role of the people of Rangpur in Bangladesh’s agricultural sector. Islam emphasized that despite their contributions, the region has not achieved the expected development. He urged the current generation of students to take responsibility for the future development of Rangpur and the nation.

Islam praised Rangpur Carmichael College for its history and tradition, noting that many of its alumni have served the country at various levels. He encouraged students to study diligently and be aware of the country’s needs, preparing to contribute to the nation’s progress.

Highlighting the bravery of the Rangpur region, Islam paid tribute to martyr Abu Sayeed, whose actions during the July Movement symbolize the courage of Rangpur. He recalled how Sayeed and others stood against the brutal fascist regime, asserting that their legacy will endure.

The program also featured speeches from Jamaat-e-Islami Central Working Committee Member Mahbubar Rahman Belal, former Carmichael College ICS President Mehedi Hasan, and was moderated by Carmichael College ICS President Abu Sufian.
