Dhaka: Naripokkho, an organization of women's rights activists, has conveyed its sincere thanks and appreciation to the interim government for ratifying three crucial conventions of the International Labour Organization (ILO), aimed at safeguarding the rights of workers. This move is seen as a significant initial step toward enhancing the protection of workers' rights and interests.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the interim government recently ratified three pivotal ILO conventions. These include the Occupational Safety and Health Convention, 1981 (No. 155), the Promotional Framework for Occupational Safety and Health Convention, 2006 (No. 187), and the Violence and Harassment Convention, 2019 (No. 190). Naripokkho emphasized that the nation's economic progress heavily relies on the labor and dedication of its workers.
The statement from Naripokkho highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by workers, including inadequate wages, unsafe working conditions, and a lack of access to essential needs such as food, clothing, shelter, and healthcare. The organization expressed hope that the government's initiative will go beyond mere formalities and lead to effective and timely actions to fully implement these conventions, ultimately improving workers' quality of life.
