Dhaka: The Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase has approved several procurement proposals, including the acquisition of 1.05 lakh metric tons of fertilizer, alongside infrastructural projects to enhance the nation's fertilizer supply chain and storage facilities.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the approvals were granted during the 42nd meeting of the Government Purchase Committee, which was conducted virtually under the chairmanship of Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed. The Cabinet Division officials conveyed that the committee sanctioned a proposal from the Ministry of Agriculture to import 40,000 metric tonnes of DAP fertilizer from OCP Nutricrops in Morocco. This procurement is part of the seventh lot of an existing state-level agreement between Bangladesh and Morocco and will be executed by the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) at a cost of Taka 360.02 crore, with each ton priced at US$735.33.
The committee also recommended approval for another proposal from the Ministry of Agriculture to import 35,000 metric tons of MOP fertilizer from Russia's JSC "Foreign Economic Corporation (Prodintorg)" as part of the fifth lot under a state-level arrangement. This consignment is valued at Taka 152.62 crore, with a per ton price of US$356.25.
In addition to these imports, the committee endorsed a proposal from the Ministry of Industries to import 30,000 metric tonnes of bulk granular urea fertilizer from SABIC Agri-Nutrients Company, Saudi Arabia. This purchase, part of the fifth lot for the fiscal year 2025-2026, is set at a total contract value of Taka 151.78 crore, with each ton priced at US$413.33.
Furthermore, the committee approved a construction proposal under the "Construction of 34 Buffer Godowns at Different Locations for Storage and Distribution of Fertilisers (1st Revised)" project. The contract, specified under Package-4, Lot-5 (Barguna site, 10,000 MT capacity), will be executed by M/S MBL-REL (JV), Dhaka, at a total cost of Taka 51.74 crore.
All these proposals were reviewed and recommended by the committee for final approval, with an aim to ensure an uninterrupted fertilizer supply and to strengthen the storage infrastructure across the country.
