Dhaka: Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested three individuals in connection with the killing of Md Jobayed Hossain, a leader of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) from the Jagannath University unit, in the city. The suspects, identified by DMP Additional Commissioner SN Nazrul Islam, are Md Mahir Rahman (19), Barjis Shabnam Barsha (19), and Fardeen Ahmed Aylan (20).
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the murder occurred around 4:30 pm on Sunday at the 31st ward of Bangshal Police Station, under the stairwell of Roushan Villa at Nur Box Lane. Md Jobayed Hossain was reportedly visiting to tutor Barjis Shabnam Barsha, with whom he had developed a romantic relationship. However, Barsha was also involved with Mahir Rahman, which led to a conflict.
Mahir discovered Barsha’s relationship with Jobayed a month ago and could not accept it, resulting in tensions between Mahir and Barsha. Islam stated that Barsha instigated Mahir to murder Jobayed, planning the crime together. Mahir shared the plan with his friend Fardeen Ahmed Aylan and purchased a switchblade knife for Tk.500 from Aganagar Bou Bazar, South Keraniganj.
On the day of the incident, Jobayed arrived at Roushan Villa to tutor Barsha. Mahir and Aylan were positioned under the ground floor of the house. Upon Jobayed’s arrival, Mahir confronted him about the relationship with Barsha, leading to an argument. During the altercation, Mahir stabbed Jobayed in the neck with the knife, while Barsha observed from the third floor.
Following the incident, Bangshal Police Station officers conducted raids in various locations, arresting Barsha from her residence at about 10:00 pm on Sunday. Mahir was apprehended from the South Keraniganj area on Monday morning, and Fardeen was captured in Chamelibagh later that evening. During initial interrogations, the suspects reportedly confessed, with the Officer-in-Charge of Bangshal Police Station confirming it as a premeditated murder.
