Madaripur: A court here today sentenced a man to death for raping and subsequently murdering a teenage madrasah student in Sadar upazila in 2019. The court also imposed a fine of Taka 10 lakh on the convict, easy bike driver Md. Sajjad Hossain Khan.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the verdict was announced by Women and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Sharif AM Reza Zaker on Tuesday afternoon, with the convict present in court. Public Prosecutor Advocate Sharif Saiful Kabir provided details about the case proceedings.
The prosecution stated that the crime came to light on July 13, 2019, when police discovered the body of an unidentified teenage girl in an abandoned pond in the Purba Khagdi area of Madaripur district town. The following day, the victim's father, Mujibar Fakir, identified the body as his daughter.
Investigations revealed that on July 11, 2019, the girl had boarded Sajjad's easy bike to travel to Charmugaria. Sajjad Hossain then forcibly raped and murdered her. He subsequently tied her body with an electric wire and disposed of it in a pond, weighed down with bricks.
Following the tragic discovery, Mujibar Fakir filed a murder case with the Madaripur Sadar Police Station, leading to the subsequent arrest and trial of Sajjad Hossain.
