Pirojpur: Five shops were gutted in a fire at Ranipur area of Sadar upazila of the district early today. The fire broke out from a shop at Ranipur Bazar around 3 am and quickly spread to nearby shops. Fire service members, with assistance from locals, managed to control the blaze after an hour.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the fire resulted in the complete destruction of a grocery store, a gold shop, a poultry and chicken food shop, and a furniture shop. Fire Service Station In-charge, Warehouse Inspector Jugal Biswas, confirmed the incident and indicated that an electrical short circuit might have triggered the fire. The financial damage from the incident is estimated to be around Taka 25 lakh.
