Bogura: National Citizen Party (NCP) Chief Organizer (Northern Region) Sarjis Alam today emphasized that the people of Bangladesh will have the decisive say on the acceptability of the upcoming national election, asserting that no arbitrary actions will be tolerated. Speaking to journalists following the inauguration of the NCP's temporary office in Bogura, Alam highlighted the pivotal role of the citizens in determining the electoral process.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Sarjis Alam criticized the political maneuvers of Jamaat, particularly their call for movement over proportional representation (PR) despite its exclusion from the July Charter. He expressed disappointment in Jamaat's actions, labeling them as political inconsistency and hypocrisy, and stressed the importance of political parties maintaining their commitments to garner public trust.
Alam further commented on the historical context of coalition governments in Bangladesh, noting that while the BNP has previously formed coalition governments, Jamaat has not had significant parliamentary representation. He argued that no single party, including the Awami League, BNP, or Jamaat, possesses the strength to lead the nation independently on matters of dominance or reform.
He emphasized the need for strong representation of the NCP both in the streets and in parliament, underscoring the party's organizational efforts to achieve this goal. Alam also highlighted the importance of youth representation in the next parliament to drive changes in the political culture and expressed the NCP's commitment to working with those who support the July Charter and ongoing demands for justice.
The NCP's organizational activities were detailed, with Alam mentioning coordination meetings across various districts to assess the political landscape and bolster the party's structure. He outlined the necessity of building an organizational network from the central to the ward level to effectively represent the people in the next parliament, whether as the ruling party or a strong opposition.
Regarding the upcoming elections, Alam stated that legal recognition and implementation of the July Charter, visible judicial processes, and an independent Election Commission are essential for a smooth electoral process by February. He warned against any attempts to bypass accountability or progress on these issues, asserting that such actions would remain mere dreams.
NCP Central Chief Organizer (Acting) and Organizing Secretary for Rajshahi Division Imran Imon, Central Committee Organizer Dr. Abdullah Al Sani, and leaders of the NCP Bogura district unit were also present at the event.
