Dinajpur: A three-day International Shadow United Nations (UN) Conference will begin at Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU) in Dinajpur on October 23.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Secretary General of the conference Fahim Al Mahmud expressed that the conference aims to open new horizons for leadership practice among the young generation. He emphasized that the event would provide a vital opportunity to foster unity, courage, and humanitarian spirit among the youth.
The main theme of this year's conference draws inspiration from the historic Santal Rebellion of 1855, a significant indigenous mass movement in the subcontinent. Al Mahmud highlighted that the Santals' courage and fight for justice demonstrate that even oppressed people can establish their rights through unity, patience, and consciousness.
The conference will feature discussions across nine different committees focusing on crucial areas of the UN and global diplomacy. Approximately 300 representatives from over 40 educational institutions across the country are expected to participate in the event.
Additionally, 70 secretariat members are actively working under the university administration's guidance and with comprehensive support from the teachers to ensure the conference's success.
University sources indicated that the conference will significantly aid in developing qualities such as diplomacy, compromise, and leadership among the youth. Notably, HSTU has been organizing the International Shadow United Nations Conference annually, engaging students from various educational institutions nationwide.
University's Registrar Professor Dr. Md Abu Hasan confirmed that preparations for the conference are underway, with university authorities taking all necessary measures to ensure the event's success.
