Khulna: Highlighting the crucial role of mathematics in modern civilization, the Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Khulna University (KU), Prof Dr Md Rezaul Karim, stated, “There is no sector of modern life that operates without mathematics.”
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Prof Dr Md Rezaul Karim remarked that “mathematics is the driving force now behind artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science, and advanced technology” while serving as the chief guest at the inauguration of the two-day “Grand Reunion” programme at the university’s multipurpose room of Academic Building No. 3.
He commended the mathematics alumni of the university for their contributions both in Bangladesh and internationally, which have bolstered the university’s reputation. Additionally, the Vice-Chancellor paid tribute to Mir Mahfuzur Rahman Mugdha, a notable alumnus and July Movement martyr from the discipline.
The event was formally inaugurated by the VC with the release of balloons and festoons. The Khulna University Mathematics Alumni Association organized the event, with the association’s President Munshi Shahid Anis presiding and General Secretary Md Abdullah Al Mamun delivering the welcome speech.
Following the inauguration, a vibrant procession took place on the campus grounds. Several dignitaries, including Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Harunur Rashid, Dean of the School of Science, Engineering and Technology Professor Dr Md Ashraful Alam, Head of Mathematics Discipline Professor Dr Md Azmal Huda, Director of Student Affairs Professor Dr Md Nazmus Sadat, and senior faculty member Professor Dr Md Rafiqul Islam, addressed the ceremony as special guests.
Additionally, KU Alumni Association General Secretary Md Akhtar Hossain, Mathematics Alumni representative Md Abu Shamim, and KU Math Club President Tasbiha Tabassum Paroma, among others, also shared their thoughts at the event.
