Dhaka: Ambassador of Nepal to Bangladesh Ghanshyam Bhandari met Commerce Adviser Sk. Bashir Uddin at his office at Bangladesh Secretariat today. During the meeting, both parties engaged in detailed discussions concerning the expansion of bilateral trade.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Ambassador Ghanshyam Bhandari emphasized that Nepal’s 11 jute mills rely heavily on importing raw jute from Bangladesh to satisfy their demand. He highlighted that the recent halt in raw jute exports from Bangladesh has presented challenges for the Nepali mills. In response to these issues, Bhandari formally requested that Bangladesh consider lifting the restrictions on its raw jute exports, as mentioned in a Commerce Ministry press release.

Commerce Adviser Sk. Bashir Uddin explained that Bangladesh’s raw jute and jute products have significant demand in various countries. He noted that rather than exporting raw jute, Bangladesh is focused on exporting semi-finished jute products. Uddin stated that Bangladesh is producing high-quality, environment-friendly semi-finished jute products and suggested that if Nepal imports these products, it could enhance the bilateral trade volume, benefiting both countries.
