Dhaka: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today emphasized the need for unity and rejected the politics of vengeance and division in Bangladesh. “We do not want the politics of vengeance and division. We want to establish a state of peace. Do not cause further division. The country has suffered a great deal. We all want to work together to truly build a beautiful Bangladesh,” he stated while addressing an electoral rally at the Gopalpur Government Primary School playground in Garaiya union.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Fakhrul expressed his personal experiences with political repression, highlighting that he had been imprisoned eleven times due to fear from “fascist Sheikh Hasina.” He urged for collective efforts to build the nation, stating, “Many of our boys have sacrificed their lives for a democratic system. So, let us all unite and work together to build the country. This is the opportunity and the time to build the country beautifully.”
Fakhrul also addressed the current political climate, criticizing some political parties for their demands. “Some parties have taken to the streets with their demands and I do not believe their intentions are good. I urge you to suspend your demands for now. This is not the time for demands; this is the time to return to elections and the democratic process. Do not create any more divisions,” he advised.
Furthermore, Fakhrul mentioned the upcoming signing of the July Charter on October 17, likening political reform to necessary home renovations. “Reform is like changing the tin roof of a house. Just as the doors or tin roof of a house need to be changed every few years, politics also needs some reforms. That is why the political figures and students of our country feel that reform is necessary to fix the country,” he added.
The event was presided over by Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila BNP President Abdul Hamid, with speeches from District BNP President Mirza Faisal Amin, General Secretary Poygam Ali, and General Secretary of the Sadar Upazila BNP Mahbub Hossain Tuhin, among others.
