Dhaka: A government committee has recommended the approval of a proposal to print, bind, and supply approximately 5,54,90,869 copies of textbooks at no cost for students in class 9, Dakhil class 9, SSC, and Dakhil vocational class 9, as well as technical trade classes 9 and 10, in both Bangla and English versions for the 2026 academic year.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the approval was granted during the 41st meeting of the Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase, which was conducted virtually. The meeting was presided over by Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed.
The proposal, submitted by the Secondary and Higher Education Division, involves printing, binding, and supplying the specified number of textbooks free of cost for classes 9 and 10. The initiative will require an expenditure of around Taka 479.82 crore.
