Dhaka: A court here today ordered authorities to publish notices in newspapers summoning 262 individuals, including ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, to appear in a case concerning an alleged attempt to overthrow the interim government and engage in anti-state activities. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam issued the order following a petition by CID assistant superintendent of police Md Enamul Haque, with the court setting November 11 as the date for the accused to appear.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the case names several prominent figures alongside Sheikh Hasina, including Dr. Rabbi Alam, Kabirul Islam, Advocate Kamrul Islam, and Elahi Newaz Masum, among others. The court had previously accepted a police plea to show 24 of the 286 accused as arrested, leading to the current plea to summon the remaining 262 fugitives.
Case documents reveal that on December 19, 2024, an online meeting on Zoom led to the formation of a group named 'Joy Bangla Brigade.' Participants expressed a commitment to restore Sheikh Hasina to the Prime Minister's office through civil war, vowing to fight until her reinstatement. The cybernetic meeting saw 577 participants from various locations domestically and internationally, all pledging to follow Sheikh Hasina's directives.
