ACC Files Corruption Case Against Former Dinajpur-6 MP Sibli Sadeeq

Dhaka: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has initiated legal proceedings against former Dinajpur-6 constituency lawmaker Md Shibli Sadeeq, accusing him of amassing illegal wealth amounting to approximately Taka eight crore.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Deputy Director of the ACC’s Public Relations Department, Md Akhtarul Islam, informed journalists about the development. The case was filed by Md Alam Miah, Deputy Assistant Director of the ACC Dinajpur office, under section 27(1) of the ACC Act-2004.



The ACC’s allegations indicate that Md Shibli Sadeeq, a former member of parliament, has acquired assets worth about Taka 7,96,33,633 through corrupt practices and irregularities, which are beyond his known sources of income. The investigation revealed that Sadeeq owns a five-story building in Nababganj upazila, Dinajpur, a flat in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi, 50 percent ownership of Swanpnapuri Park, two flats in Cox’s Bazar, and 45 acres of land across various upazilas in Dinajpur.



In addition to real estate, the ACC discovered significant business capital, two jeeps, furniture, gold ornaments, and a bank balance totaling approximately Taka 19,14,22,304. The ACC sources reported that while Sadeeq’s acceptable income was around Taka 10,80,00,000, his accumulated properties were valued at Taka 18,76,00,000, indicating an unexplained income of approximately Taka 7,96,00,000.
