International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction Observed with Rally and Discussion in Khulna

Khulna: The International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction was observed in the district today with the theme "Working Together to Build Resilience against Disasters." A discussion meeting took place at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner's office, led by Deputy Commissioner Md Toufiqur Rahman.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized the dual threat of natural and man-made disasters, noting the significant human suffering they cause. He highlighted the importance of awareness and preparedness, stating, "Bangladesh is geographically prone to disasters. We must act responsibly as citizens. The more prepared we are, the less damage we will face."

Additional speakers at the event included Additional Deputy Commissioner Bitan Kumar Mondal, Assistant Director of Fire Service and Civil Defense Md Masud Sardar, Khulna Metropolitan BNP President Advocate Shafiqul Alam Mona, BRAC District Coordinator Md Shafiqul Islam, World Vision Area Programme Manager Suravi Biswas, and JJS representative Abdul Baki. District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Md Abdul Karim delivered the welcome speech.

The day's events also featured a colorful rally that commenced from Shaheed Park, traversing various city streets before concluding at the Khulna Collectorate premises. Participants from different sectors of society joined the rally, demonstrating broad community support for disaster risk reduction efforts.

Additionally, a demonstration focusing on fire and earthquake safety measures was held at the Collectorate ground, underscoring practical aspects of disaster preparedness.
