Rangpur: Divisional Commissioner Md Shahidul Islam announced today that approximately 49 lakh children, aged between nine months and 15 years, will be vaccinated against typhoid in the Rangpur division during a month-long campaign. "It is crucial to protect the children's health. Typhoid fever can be prevented by taking a single dose of typhoid vaccine," he stated while inaugurating the Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine (TCV) campaign at the Zila School ground.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Rangpur Divisional Director (Health) Office of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), in collaboration with UNICEF, is conducting the campaign across all eight districts of the division. This effort is part of a nationwide program running from October 12 to November 13, under the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI).
The Divisional Commissioner highlighted that thus far, 15 lakh children have been registered for typhoid vaccinations in the Rangpur division, accounting for 31 percent of the target. He emphasized the importance of vaccination registration to obtain a vaccination certificate, which could prove useful in the future.
He urged all involved parties to ensure the campaign's success by vaccinating all eligible children, thereby enhancing their immunity and reducing future health risks. Additional Secretary of the DGHS Md Huzur Ali, who spoke as a special guest, explained that typhoid fever is contracted through contaminated water and unhealthy food, with children under 15 being particularly susceptible.
He encouraged active participation to implement the typhoid vaccination program effectively to safeguard children's health. The event was presided over by Rangpur Zila School Headmaster Md Abul Kalam Azad, and attended by various dignitaries including Rangpur Range DIG Aminul Islam, Director (Administration) of the DGHS Dr. ABM Abu Hanif, and UNICEF Rangpur and Rajshahi Divisional Chief AH Towfique Ahmed.
