Dhaka: The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced that the next edition of the Bangladesh Premier League T20 (BPL T20) will feature five teams and be held in a compact window from mid-December to mid-January. The decision was confirmed by BPL Governing Council General Secretary Iftekhar Rahman Mithu, who acknowledged the initial uncertainty in organizing the tournament within such a limited timeframe.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the BPL management is set to enter new contracts with the franchises. Mithu emphasized the fresh start for this year's BPL, noting that previous contacts with franchises have concluded. The focus is now on organizing the tournament with five teams, although he did not rule out the possibility of increasing the number to six or seven. The primary objective remains to successfully conduct the event with the planned number of teams.

Mithu also highlighted the importance of careful franchise selection to prevent issues encountered in previous editions. The BPL Governing Council aims to be stringent in its choice of franchises, prioritizing financial stability and effective cricket management. He stressed that having a strong financial backing is not sufficient; competent cricket management is equally crucial. The council will prioritize these elements in their selection process to ensure a smooth tournament.
