Rangpur: Vice-chancellor of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) Professor Dr Md Showkat Ali emphasized the symbolic significance of martyrs Abrar Fahad and Abu Sayeed as beacons of the same spirit. He highlighted their roles as representations of patriotism, justice, and independent thinking.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Professor Ali made these remarks during a discussion titled "From Abrar to Abu Sayeed: Sovereignty, Hegemony and Transition," which was organized to commemorate the sixth death anniversary of Abrar Fahad. Fahad is remembered as a symbol of resistance against aggression and hegemony. The event was hosted by the BRUR unit of the Anti-Oppression Student Alliance and took place on Tuesday night on the second floor of the university's central cafeteria.
Professor Ali praised the sacrifices of Abrar Fahad and Abu Sayeed, acknowledging how their actions have laid a new foundation for nationhood. He urged collective efforts to prevent future injustices against young people.
The discussion was chaired by Shahriar Sohag, a student from the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, while Khadimul Sardar from the Department of Mathematics moderated the event. Notable attendees included Dr Md Harun-or-Rashid, Registrar of BRUR, and Professor Dr Md Elias Pramanik, Director of the Office of Students' Affairs, who participated as special guests.
