Gazipur: The Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) Trustee Board has taken a significant step to support the families of road accident victims in Gazipur by distributing financial assistance cheques totaling Taka 25 lakh. The assistance was extended to the families of five individuals who tragically lost their lives in road accidents within the district.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Deputy Commissioner Nafisa Arefin personally handed over the cheques to the families at the district administration office on Wednesday afternoon. The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Assistant Director of BRTA Gazipur Circle Mahfuzur Rahman and Motor Vehicle Inspector Nasirul Arefin, who were present to offer their support and condolences.
One of the recipients, Josna Khatun, wife of the deceased Ahidul Islam, expressed her gratitude upon receiving a cheque for Taka 5 lakh. She shared her relief, stating, "My husband died in a road accident a year ago. I was very worried about my two children. Today I received Taka 5 lakh, it seems like a dream to me. With this money, I will be able to live with my children. I am eternally grateful to those who extended this support."
BRTA Gazipur Circle Assistant Director SM Mahfuzur Rahman confirmed that the BRTA Trustee Board distributed cheques amounting to Taka 25 lakh to the families of the deceased. Additionally, he announced that another incentive of Taka 1.75 crore would be distributed in the coming days, offering further support to affected families.
According to BRTA sources, families of deceased or seriously injured victims can apply for financial assistance by submitting the prescribed form along with appropriate evidence within 30 days of the accident. The Trustee Board reviews the applications, and upon approval, selects the recipients for financial aid.
The deceased individuals whose families received the assistance are Abu Bakkar Siddique, Bijoy Hossain, Ahidul Islam, Sumon Hossain, and Monira Khatun.
