Dhaka: A court here today sent Awami League (AL) organising secretary and former lawmaker from the Shariatpur-1 constituency, BM Mozammel Haque, to jail in a case related to the killing of garment worker Rubel during the July-August Mass Uprising. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana issued the order as police presented Mozammel before the court and requested his detention until the investigation in the case is concluded.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, police arrested the former lawmaker from the capital's Niketon area on October 5. At approximately 11.30 am, the rally was attacked by police and cadres of AL and its affiliate organizations, during which Rubel was shot and died instantly.
On August 22, 2024, Rubel's father, Rafikul Islam, filed the case with the Adabor Police Station, leading to the legal proceedings against Mozammel and others allegedly involved in the incident.
