International Tennis Championship Kicks Off in Rajshahi

Rajshahi: The 30th Rajshahi International (Under-18) Junior Tennis Championship-2025 commenced today at the Rajshahi Tennis Complex. The tournament, which is set to run for a week, is organized by the Rajshahi Tennis Complex with assistance from the Bangladesh Tennis Federation. Financial backing is provided by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the event has received approval from the International Tennis Federation (ITF).



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the championship features a total of 57 players, including 39 international participants from 11 countries, and is supported by 10 coaches and managers. The participating countries include the United States of America, India, South Korea, Thailand, Japan, China, Maldives, Chinese Taipei, Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia, alongside the host nation, Bangladesh.



The tournament was officially inaugurated by Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner Khondoker Azim Ahmed, who marked the occasion by releasing balloons and festoons. The event was attended by several notable figures including Tournament Director and Additional Divisional Commissioner Muhammad Habibur Rahman, Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Muhammad Abu Sufian, and Superintendent of Police Farjana Islam.



Tournament Director Habibur Rahman highlighted that players began arriving in Rajshahi on Friday, with accommodations arranged at Parjatan Motel and two other local hotels. The tournament’s schedule includes qualifying round matches on October 4 and 5, followed by the main draw matches starting October 6.
