Dhaka: BNP Vice Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu today emphasized the profound connection between culture and political creativity, asserting that a nation's culture is the highest expression of its political ingenuity. 'The highest form of political creativity lies within culture, where a nation's way of life, traditions, and heritage are fully reflected,' he declared while addressing a gathering as the chief guest at a discussion and cultural program.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the event was organized by Anurag Social and Cultural Organization and took place at the National Art Gallery Auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. Anurag President Mostafa Motihar presided over the program, which was attended by BNP Cultural Affairs Secretary Ashraf Uddin Ahmed Uzzal, Dhaka City South Chhatra Dal President Shamim Mahmud, actor ABM Sohel Rashid, and journalist Akashmoni, among others.
Dudu also made a controversial claim regarding Bangladesh's independence history, stating that Sheikh Mujibur Rahman did not declare independence but instead surrendered to the Pakistanis, while Ziaur Rahman announced independence and actively participated in the Liberation War. He highlighted Ziaur Rahman's leadership, sacrifice, and subsequent return to civilian life as key factors that endeared him to the people of Bangladesh.
Furthermore, Dudu lauded Begum Khaleda Zia for her leadership during the 1990 mass uprising and her resilience in the face of prolonged political persecution. He criticized the Awami League's governance, accusing the ruling family of financial scandals, including a bank robbery during Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's era, and argued that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's administration has led the country toward dysfunction.
Dudu concluded his remarks by calling for a 'true and acceptable election' to restore democracy in Bangladesh, emphasizing the need for a fair electoral process to ensure the country's democratic integrity.
