Jubo Sanghati Leader Pavel on 5-Day Remand for Alleged Government Overthrow Plot

Dhaka: A Dhaka court today granted a five-day remand to Rifatul Islam Pavel, Joint General Secretary of Jubo Sanghati, a front organization of Jatiya Party (Roshan Ershad), in a case under the Anti Terrorism Act. Pavel was accused of being involved in a plot to overthrow the government.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, police produced Pavel before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court, seeking a seven-day remand for proper investigation. After hearing the case, Metropolitan Magistrate Jashtia Islam approved a five-day remand.



Earlier, Pavel was arrested by the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police from the Gulshan area. Sub-Inspector Azizul Hakm of Ramna Police Station filed the case on September 14 under the Anti-Terrorism Act, alleging Pavel’s involvement in the alleged plot to overthrow the government.
