Dhaka: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami today unveiled new initiatives to advocate for its 5-point demand, primarily centered on conducting the upcoming national election in February based on the July National Charter. Party Secretary General and former lawmaker Professor Mia Golam Parwar announced these plans at a press conference held at the capital's Moghbazar Al-Falah Auditorium.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the event was led by Assistant Secretary General and Chief of the Central Publicity and Media Department Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair. Other notable attendees included Assistant Secretary General Dr. AHM Hamidur Rahman Azad, Maulana Abdul Halim, Central Executive Council Member Mubarak Hossain, Dhaka Metropolitan South Amir Nurul Islam Bulbul, and Dhaka Metropolitan North Nayeb-e-Amir Abdur Rahman Musa.
Golam Parwar outlined Jamaat's 5-point demand, which focuses on securing the people's right to vote and establishing a just, accountable, and democratic state. The demands highlight conducting the national election in February according to the July Charter, implementing a Proportional Representation (PR) system, curbing the influence of black money and muscle power in elections, forming a competent parliament with skilled lawmakers, and ensuring proper evaluation of each vote.
He asserted that individuals from various sectors have already shown support for these demands. To garner public backing, Jamaat has announced a series of initiatives, including mass communication, opinion-exchange meetings, roundtable discussions, and seminars nationwide from October 1 to 9.
Mass processions are scheduled in all divisional cities, including the capital, on October 10, and memorandums will be submitted to Deputy Commissioners across the country on October 12. The Jamaat Secretary General called on citizens to participate in these programmes to ensure their success.
