Dhaka: Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter today emphasized that Durga Puja transcends religious observance, highlighting humanity’s profound connection with nature and the mutual love and respect among people. ‘Goddess Durga reminds us of our responsibilities towards nature and the importance of harmonious human relationships through the rituals of Puja,’ she remarked.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the adviser shared these insights while exchanging greetings with members of the Hindu community during the Sharadiya Durgotsav at the historic Dhakeshwari National Temple. She elaborated on how the worship of Goddess Durga extends beyond religious devotion, reflecting a deep reverence for nature.
Farida Akhter pointed out that offerings during the Puja, such as rice, bananas, cashews, and pomegranates, symbolize the intimate connection between human beings and the natural world. In light of ongoing environmental challenges, such rituals serve as vital reminders of the value of nature, human unity, and shared responsibility.
The adviser also addressed Kumari Puja, describing it as a symbol of dignity, power, and respect for women. She reaffirmed the spirit of communal harmony in Bangladesh, stating, ‘Bangladesh belongs to all of us. There is no space for division here. Progress is possible only through collective effort and unity.’
The event was attended by Metropolitan Sarbajanin Puja Committee President Shri Jayant Deb, Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad President Shri Basudeb Dhar, its Adviser Shri Subrata Chowdhury, and noted physician Dr. Arup Ratan Chowdhury, among others.
