New york: There’s no anti-Hindu violence in Bangladesh under the interim government, Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus declared, dismissing allegations of persecution against the Hindu minority. In an interview with journalist Mehdi Hasan for Zeteo, conducted during the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Professor Yunus confidently refuted the claims as unfounded.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Professor Yunus emphasized that misinformation is at play, labeling the allegations as “fake news,” a term he associated with current trends in India. As a Nobel Peace Prize-winning economist, Yunus took on the role of interim head following the 2024 July Uprising, which resulted in the removal of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.

Reflecting on his unexpected appointment, Yunus expressed surprise at being chosen as interim chief, a position he accepted after witnessing the fervor of the protesters. “If you have sacrificed so much, I will change my mind,” he recounted telling them.

The interview, released on September 29, delved into several pressing issues, including the rationale behind the postponement of national elections, the ongoing Rohingya crisis, and the prohibition of activities by the fascist Awami League.
