EC Dialogue: Civil Society Urges Election Commission to Ensure Security for All Ahead of Elections

Dhaka: Civil society representatives and academics participating in a dialogue with the Election Commission (EC) today called for ensuring security for all to guarantee a free and fair election. The dialogue was held at the Election Commission Building in Agargaon, Dhaka, focusing on the upcoming 13th parliamentary elections and emphasizing the need for a transparent and impartial vote-counting process.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the participants highlighted the role of the media during the elections and urged the EC to seek media cooperation throughout the electoral process. They emphasized that effective media coverage is crucial for a fair democracy, as it enables the collection and dissemination of accurate information from the start, thus avoiding misconceptions.

The dialogue saw the presence of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin, four election commissioners, and senior secretaries of the EC. In the first session, 13 civil society representatives, including former caretake
r government adviser Begum Rasheda K Choudhury and former ambassador M Humayun Kabir, participated and shared their insights.

The second session included 15 prominent academicians, such as Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan, former Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. AFM Yusuf Haider, and Jahangirnagar University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan. The academicians urged the EC to fully implement measures necessary for a transparent electoral process.
